What we do

A storefront door drags, then chips the floor, then stops latching, then the glass cracks at the corner. Each step is cheaper to fix than the next one.

New storefront doors

Narrow, medium and wide stile aluminum doors, single or in pairs, with the frame and sidelites, glazed with tempered glass and fitted with the closer, lock and pull you choose.

Glass replacement

Cracked or broken door glass secured and replaced with tempered glass cut to size. Insulated units where the entrance is heated and cooled.

Pivots and hinges

A door that drags or sits crooked usually has a worn bottom pivot or a loose top pivot. Replaced, and the door re-hung level.

How we repair a storefront door.

We find out why the door drags before we replace anything

A dragging storefront door gets blamed on the closer, the glass, the floor. It is usually the bottom pivot, worn to the point that the door has dropped a quarter inch and the lock no longer lines up with the strike. We check the pivots, the hinge side, the closer arm and the frame anchors, and quote the part that has actually failed.

We measure glass to the stile and fit tempered, never annealed

Door glass in a storefront has to be tempered safety glass. We measure the opening in the stile, not the old pane, order the glass to that size, and secure the opening until it arrives. The glass is set on blocks, glazed, and the stops reinstalled so it does not rattle.

We install the new door to the frame that is there

A replacement door is ordered to the frame's opening, glazed, hung on new pivots, fitted with a closer sized for its weight and width, and adjusted until it closes and latches on its own. Then the lock is fitted and keyed, and the weatherstrip and sweep go on.

My storefront door drags on the floor. Is that the closer?

Usually not. A door that drags has dropped, and it drops when the bottom pivot wears out or the top pivot loosens. Replacing the pivot set and re-hanging the door level fixes it; adjusting the closer does not. We check both on the visit and tell you which it is.

The glass in the door broke. Can you secure it today?

When the schedule allows, yes: we board or panel the opening so the store is closed to weather and open to customers, measure for tempered glass, and glaze it when it arrives. Tempered glass is made to order, so the replacement is a second visit.

Can you replace just the door and keep the storefront frame?

In most cases. Aluminum storefront frames outlast the doors in them. If the frame is square, anchored and not corroded at the floor, a new door ordered to its opening is the cheaper job. We tell you when the frame should go too.

Why does the door slam, or not close at all?

Both are the closer. A closer that has lost its fluid slams; one with the arm or spring set wrong hangs open. Some can be adjusted; most that are leaking are replaced with a closer sized for the door's width and weight.

Does a storefront exit door need panic hardware?

That depends on the building's occupancy and the exit route, which the fire marshal decides, not us. Restaurants and stores above a certain occupancy usually do. We install push-pad and crossbar exit devices on aluminum doors and can tell you what we see on similar buildings, but the code question goes to the marshal.

Do you work on storefronts in shopping centers and strip malls?

Yes, across metro Atlanta, including work that has to happen before opening or after closing. A property manager with several storefronts can have us walk the center once and write one estimate.
